Barbara was born in 1933 in Pampa, Texas to Everett and Ruth Huffhines. She graduated from White Deer High School in 1952. She attended Hendrick Memorial School of Nursing in Abilene, Texas, becoming a registered nurse upon graduation in 1955. She married Jimmie D. Evans in 1954, and they started their professional careers together at hospitals in Olton and El Campo, Texas before moving to Lubbock in 1960. They remained in Lubbock, raising their three children until the time of their divorce in 1981. She later married Jack Davis in 1989, and they remained married until the time of his death in 2001.
Barbara had a lifelong passion for nursing, and spent the whole of her working career as a practicing RN, teaching as a nursing instructor, and working in other hospital related fields. She was a nursing instructor for the Lubbock Vocational School of Nursing and South Plains College. She was a long-time employee of Covenant Health Systems, working as registered nurse, as well as in case management. One of her proudest legacies was her ex-students who served throughout Lubbock’s medical community. However, she was most proud of the close and dear friendships she shared with so many of those same students and co-workers.
When not working, Barbara enjoyed movies, watching her children and grandchildren’s activities, and spending time with her beloved friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Ruth Huffhines and her brothers, James Burr and Marquis “Mickey” Smith. She is survived by her three children: daughter, Jimi Bernard and husband David of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son, Joe Evans and Kathryn of Chester, Vermont; son, Jeff Evans and wife Tricia of Amarillo, Texas; Laurie Evans of Plano, Texas; and eleven grandchildren--Brandon, Tim and Lauren Bernard; Tristin and Garner Evans; Erin, Blake, and Griffin Evans; Emma, Claire, and Annabelle Evans.
