

Bert Henderson Oatman, 97, of Lubbock, went to be with Jesus and his loved ones August 13, 2015 at Covenant Hospital. Born to Jesse Walter and Eva E Tedrow Oatman May 16, 1918 near Loving, Young County, Texas, he was one of six children born to this union. He was raised on a farm, educated through the ninth grade at Loving. He married his pin-pal sweetheart, Annie Bell Landrum, of Floyd Texas, in Greenville Texas on May 13, 1939. They made their home at Loving for two years, going to West Texas in the spring of 1941, settling at Flagg Texas, near Dimmit then moving to Lubbock, Texas December 1941.
Bert was employed by Lubbock Transfer & Storage (later Luther Moving & Storage) for over fourteen years. In the spring of 1942, work was slow a the moving company and he worked four months for the Pascall family at Slide Rd and 82nd St, northeast side farming the land and helping with the dairy, then returning to the moving company. He later went to work at Reese AFB as a Household Goods Inspector for over 23 years, retiring in February of 1980.
Bert was saved at the age of 12 in 1930 at Loving Baptist Church. He was ordained a deacon at Parkdale Baptist Church, 4th and Ave. D in 1955. Bert and Annie had no children of their own but adopted two baby girls at birth, June LaDell in 1955 and Barbara Ann in 1957. Annie passed away January 9, 1978, a victim of cancer. He met and then married Leona Mae Wall Summers on July 1, 1978. The made their home in Wolfforth until moving to Lake Buchanan, Tow, Texas at his retirement. In 1999 they move to Lake Brownwood, May, Texas. During their marriage they were active in the music programs of Town West Baptist Church, in First Baptist Church in Tow, TX and Lake Brownwood North Lake Community Church. After Leona’s passing on July 30, 2006 in Lubbock, a victim of diabetes and heart an attack, Bert continued his work with music at Elm Grove Baptist.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, one sister Gladys Sartain and her husband Lester, brothers, J.W., Bobby, Eugene and Clifford Herman.
He is survived by two daughters, June LeDell Penn and Barbara Ann Busby; 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
