On Tuesday, April 2nd, 2014 the Smyer community lost a man of great character and respect. Billy "Bill" Brown, 74 passed peacefully into the arms of his loving wife Anne Brown. Bill and Anne were married in the summer of 1958 immediately following graduation from Smyer High School where they had been sweethearts since the sixth grade. The following summer they welcomed their first son Billy Bob Brown into their family and he never left Bill's side from then on. Bill said many times he and Anne couldn't remember not having Billy Bob in their lives. Four years later they welcomed their second son Larry Earl Brown who quickly became Billy Bob's sidekick. Larry was the light of Anne's life and she kept him with her always. The happy family had many great years together and remained close always. Bill proudly began his cotton farming career in 1956 while still in high school and farmed continuously until his retirement in 2011. Bill was a member of South Smyer Coop Gin and United Cotton Growers. Bill was also a proud member of the American Ag Movement.
Bill was lucky enough to find love again in his life when he fell in love with Carla Brown. They had five very happy years together and Carla rarely left his side during his illness. They traveled, took cruises and had many happy times together. Carla was a true blessing to Bill and we are all very grateful for that and she will always have a special place in our hearts. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Floyd "Toad" and Lois Brown and his loving brother Mack Brown. Bill is survived by his son Billy Bob Brown and wife Becky, who loved Bill as her own father, of Smyer, Texas and Larry Earl Brown and wife Kerrie of Lubbock, Texas. Bill is also survived by his grandchildren Raven Anne Brown of Hermosa Beach California, Jacob Mack Brown and Jessica Lauren Brown, both of Smyer, Texas and Harley Mesquite Brown of Pottsboro, Texas. All of Bill's grandchildren adored their Pappy.
