

Bill V. Lara, 70, of Lubbock, Tx, passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 22,1955, Bill Lara dedicated his life to service, both in the military and in his community.
Bill proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1973 to 1988, achieving the rank of GySgt. His military career took him to various parts of the world, including tours in Japan, Hawaii, Korea and the Philippines, where he earned numerous commendations for his bravery and leadership. His commitment to his country was unwavering and he was a source of inspiration to all who knew him. His motto in life was “Once a Marine Always a Marine”.
In his retirement, Bill enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, listening to music, dancing and working on various projects with Lee Lewis Construction, a company he worked with for 20 plus years. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also enjoyed sharing stories and knowledge with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Eva Martinez Lara; his children, Wendy Ann Lara, Jeanette Salgado and Gilbert Chagolla Jr; his five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and his two brothers Jose Luis Torres (Mary Jane), Johnny Torres (Tammy) and one sister, Gloria Garcia (Alberto).
He was preceded in death by his parents; Ignacio Lara and Pauline Vasquez; great grandparents; Gabriel and Estanislada Vasquez. His legacy of service, love, and dedication will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
A viewing and visitation will be held at 5-8 pm, Sunday, December 14th, at Lakeridge Chapel with the Rosary beginning at 7pm. Monday, December 15th, viewing will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church at 1 pm. Mass will commence at 2pm. Following mass, the burial will be at Idalou cemetery with full military honors.
