Billy Ray O’Neill was born in Nixon, Tx on March 31, 1934 to Zelma and Laura O’Neill. He married his wife Lamoyne in 1956 and they had a daughter Rusty in 1960.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife Lamoyne, daughter Rusty and son Wesley.
Bill served 6 years in the Airforce as a base policeman during the Korean war. In 1963, he joined the San Antonio Fire Department and spent the next 25 years serving as a driver, paramedic and firefighter. In the early 1970’s, he was in the second class of paramedics for San Antonio as they launched their new EMS program. He served for many years as a paramedic before returning to firefighting until retirement. He was also a longtime Mason of Lodge #1327.
In his younger days, Bill enjoyed playing baseball with his uncles and cousins on a team called the Shamrocks as well as many other teams. His favorite hobby was deer hunting in Uvalde, Tx with old friends. He never missed a hunting season until his daughter’s medical condition made it difficult to be away from home. Family was first in his mind always.
After his wife’s and daughter’s passing, his last few years were spent closer to his family in San Antonio where he died peacefully on January 22, 2023.
