Good afternoon, everybody.

First, to Donna, Ricky, Ashley, and the rest of Brett's family, from my family, from everybody gathered here, and others that aren't able to be here, our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences.

I met Brett eleven years ago while we were in college.  We quickly became good friends and went on to be roommates during our last year of school.  After graduation, Brett and I both moved to Austin to begin working and living in the real world.  He was my best friend, a groomsman at my wedding, and was there to celebrate the birth of my son with us after coming home from the hospital.  Brett was a genuine person and so much fun to be around.  His favorite thing to do was to have fun spending time with family and friends.  There were several activities that he enjoyed, but he loved to be with those he cared about making memories.

Brett possessed many admirable qualities.  So many good qualities that I feel it best to sum them up by saying “Brett was a man of character, a man of principle, and a man of integrity.”

There weren't many things in this world that Brett didn't like, but these things he hated:
1. Terrorists
2. Democrats/liberals
3. Tiger Woods
4. Longhorns
5. Aggies
6. Longhorns

Brett, your passing has brought our lives to a halt.  It was way too soon, and completely unfair.  But, I know that you were called to Heaven to serve a higher purpose.  I'm thankful for all the time we had together, and I look forward to seeing you again, amigo.

 So I have been trying to figure out what I was going to say for a few days now, but nothing I wrote down did a good enough job expressing what I wanted to say.  Then it came to me last night as to why I was having such a difficult time, and that is because words just can't do justice to what Brett meant to me.

 I tried to recall my favorite Brett story, but I ran into a similar problem.  How do I narrow down so many wonderful memories?  There were the countless times in elementary school when we played video games after church.  There was the phone call in high school – “Hey man, my parents are out of town.  Let's Party!” which was followed by – “Hey Brett, this is Colin (my brother-in-law) let me get Matt.”  Then one of my favorites, the time we first moved in together in college.  Well at the time we both lived in different houses, with different roommates, both of our leases were up at the end of the next month, and we already had our next house picked out.  Well we wanted to live together at that very instance and of course we couldn't wait for another month, so we packed up all his stuff and moved it into the house I lived in at the time.  This was a two bedroom house and, as I already mentioned, I already had one roommate.  So Brett moved his stuff, bed and all, into the dining room.  Needless to say, at the time, it was the best decision we ever made because he could hang out all day and not have to leave, or sleep on the couch.

 It was that passion for life, that carefree “I don't mind sleeping in the dining room” attitude that separated Brett from all others.  It was his loyalty as a friend and his kind and gentile nature that placed him at the top of everyone's favorite people lists.

 Like I said, words can't fully capture what Brett meant to me but what I can say is “Thank You.”  Thank you for being more than a friend.  Thank you for being a brother to me.  Thank you for making my life better for just having you in it.  You will be missed and know that the impact you had on so many lives will live on forever.

Brett L. Walker is in all our prayers, a good man from which I remember...thoughts as in good times like the Texas Tech. vs UT football games. We each won and lost but Brett you will not be forgotten...AMEN, my brother.

I got to know Brett for the time he worked at the Austin District lab. He was very easy to get along with. He was funny and always backed his Red Raiders. We would visit about our working out that never seemed to quite work, but we still did it. We would constantly joke around and pick on everyone. Brett was always well informed and smart. He would answer a lot of questions about electronics for me. I am proud to have known him. I pray blessings over the family, Pray for a peace that surpasses all understandings. I pray for the Lord to comfort and guide each and everyone close to Brett. I ask the Lord to wrap His arms around them and they will know He is there for them. I pray for strength to carry on in these very hard times. I pray God will fill their hearts and make a way when there seems to be no way. I ask this in Jesus Christ name, amen. Brett will be truly missed and thought of always.

Brett & I met at TxDot working together in design with cubicles right next to each other. While TxDot wasn't the most lively of places, Brett & I would get through those days joking about Red Raiders & Aggies, driving around to check out potential road projects, and extending our 2 break times beyond the allotted limit. We created a friendship that would last beyond my short time at TxDot and would catch up over lunches that I usually had to pay for after the latest Aggie loss. I will remember Brett as someone who lived pursuing the joy of the moment, usually making people laugh as he genuinely cared for people. We had great discussions about a number of things from football, his desire to run his own company, and even about Jesus. It's hard for me to believe we've lost him at such a young age and this football season I will miss his taunting texts about Red Raider dominance. He was a great friend, I will miss him greatly, and am challenged to live each moment with the desire for joy and laughter that he had. Love you Brett. Wreck'em tech, you will be missed friend.

Brett O Brett…….You weren't supposed to leave us so soon…. You have always kept to yourself through the years at the office, but I got to know you and your passion for Tech more by working out in the field with you these past 9 months. I will remember your frequent jokes about Texas and even my Cowboys! I know you're probably saying Ha! Texas had their worst year ever and I got to see it! Right? Yea I can hear your laugh now.
Just know I will continue our yearly bet…. you know the cup of coffee you had to buy each year on the Texas and Tech game. I can feel your stare right now, oh the fun times of football.
Thanks for the memories here at TxDot. It won't be the same without you. Your hard work and dedication has always made my job a whole lot easier and I'm not sure if I ever thanked you, so thank you. Keep us safe out here while you watch over us here at your Project.
Until I see you again my friend, continue to play the Golf you love on the greatest green and hunt on the greatest land in heaven and of course just for you I'll say….. Go Tech Go!

Shocked and saddened...I've lost a friend. Worked for and with Brett. He was a man I respected and cared about. Golfed with him, we teamed up for the TxDot tournament, and shared some good times. Loved his attitude amid a sea of Longhorns and Aggies. Condolences to Family and close friends. Guns Up!!!

It is with great sadness and shock that I inform you of the passing of Brett Walker, PE.

Brett was a summer employee in the Lubbock District in 1998, 1999 and 2001, and graduated from Texas Tech with a BS in Civil Engineering in December 2004. I had the honor and pleasure of hiring Brett, and he started with our office in February of 2005. Although Brett initially worked as a designer and rotated through the District Lab, his passion was in construction.
In his latest assignment, Brett was doing an excellent job as the project engineer for the construction of the four remaining direct connectors for the IH 35 and Ben White interchange.
Brett passed the examination for professional registration in April of 2009 with a very high score and subsequently became registered and was romoted within our organization.
Brett was a second generation TxDOT employee and his father, Ricky Walker, served as the District Lab supervisor in the Lubbock District.
Brett was extremely talented and was on an upward career path toward becoming a leader within the Department.

His very untimely departure leaves a very big hole in our organization and in the lives of those who had the pleasure of working with Brett.

Please keep Brett's family, friends and colleagues in your prayers.

Double T on our shirts & our guns to the sky...  Brett, you will always be with us, we shall never meet a better guy.

I am incredibly grateful for all of the memories that we have shared.  Times at Lake Whitney, the barn house, and Grandma's house are all so special to me.  Even though we never lived close to each other, we always knew right where we left off.  It will never be the same without you. I know you will always be with us in spirit and relentlessly teasing me about being an Aggie!  I never thought I could care much for a Red Raider, but you're definitely the exception :) I love you and miss you!

Jim and I were so blessed to have you live with us for a time during your working internship. I will never forget the conversations and sharing of family stories that we got to have with each other.  I never make meatloaf without thinking of you! Your since of humor and honesty was always something we could count on no matter what.  I know that all of the times the family got together at the barn house will be remembered by your fun loving spirit. Just know that you will always be in our hearts and prayers forever.

We hated the reason for all getting back together in Lubbock, but it also gave us a chance to realize how important it is that we all stay in touch.  We thank you for that.  Everyone got together to do something for you and your folks.  I will upload a picture of all your friends that came up with this idea.  The attached picture is where this flag now flies, high in the Sierra Mountains, on a hill called Heavenly.  I tried to get our colors as close to you as possible.  At the very least, any local Pac-10 fan will be forced to see you and the Double T fly.

Thinking of The Walker Family today and always. My prayers are with you.  I am so sorry for your loss.  Brett was a wonderful guy and I have many fond memories of him that I will always cherish.  Brett will truly be missed!

I don't even have words to express how much you meant to me and how much I love and miss you.  I think constantly about you these days and remember all the wonderful times we've shared together.  I remember you teaching me how to drive down at the farm when I got my learner's permit(and being brave and patient enough to not kick me out of the truck when I messed up).  All the life lessons you gave me about high school, growing up, and life and the talks we would have when you'd let me drop by your place and hang out with you for the afternoons.  I know I wasn't always the easiest to get along with and my annoying penchant for following you, Zach and Matt around when I was little was annoying but it just shows you how special you were to me and how much I looked up to you even from such a young age.  You were what I aspired to be...you were amazing and confident in my eyes and you never questioned or were apologetic for who you were...always what you see is what you get.  I know I may not have always told you that I loved you, but I imagine you would have told me to quit being such a sissy.  I never questioned, though, that you knew...you were always there for me when I needed you and I will never forget you.

Brett, I can't believe you are gone.  I'm going to miss that mischievous grin of yours.  I could always count on you to brighten my day with a laugh.  You were a good friend, and will truly be missed.

Ricky, I am grieved to hear of your son's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your wife, daughter and family.

Seems like yesterday we were at TXDOT NAAO shooting the breeze at lunch...and playing golf with paper balls,messing with Me-li-ssa about her pencil skirt and red hot high heels... and flying paper airplanes across cubicles. All this of course, during our lunch break...You were always such a pleasure to work with. You were fun in the flesh. I remember congratulating you recently about obtaining your P.E. license. You told me that all had to do was put a little more effort in. It was really nice to talk to you on facebook. I wish I would have known then that would be our last time--Laughing - out -loud (lol) via FB...I know that where you are is more joyous than any day we've shared on this earth so , unselfishly I say...BYE-Holla at ya girl on the other side!

Brett, you will always be remembered.  From the day you were born you had our hearts.  From your sweet smile as a child to your adult crooked grin was always a welcomed sight to see.  I am so blessed to have known you and to have had you for a nephew.   There will always be a hole in our family and our hearts but I know we will see you again and I will hold on to that thought.  I can just see you in heaven with Popa Rodney , Uncle Jack Collins, Donnie and Sylvia having a good time.   You will be with us always.  I love you!

Our cousins are our 1st close friends in our lives.  As we age and grow we may lose touch, but we never lose the love we feel for one another.  We don't get together often, or even call... But when we meet at the farm once again... It's like we've been best buddies always.  We may not always say "I LOVE YOU!", but some of the most personal & beautiful things in life are best left unsaid.  I loved Brett as a baby, a young man, & certainly admired the accomplished man he became.

Brett was such a fun person and good friend to me. I have such good memories of playing trombone with him at Monterey. We were always battling to win first chair! We laughed a lot together. Good times playing sand volleyball in the summers. I am so heartbroken over his passing. You will be greatly missed, Brett. I will always remember our times together...

My condolences to your family.  I attended high school with Brett.  He was such a great person.  He will be sorely missed.

I went to college with Brett and was very sad to hear of his passing.  My condolences go out to his entire family.
