Bryan was born on September 15, 1970, in Oklahoma City to Rick and Kathy McDowell. His early years were spent in Guthrie, Oklahoma, before moving to Lubbock at the age of 15. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1989.
Bryan shared a very close bond with his younger brother, Wade, and with his parents, and he cherished those relationships throughout his life. He was also deeply loved by his extended family—his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws—and he treasured the time he spent with them. Bryan was a wonderful and devoted uncle who loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and took great joy in watching them grow. Family meant everything to Bryan, and those relationships remained very special to him throughout his life.
Bryan attended Texas Tech University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in December 1994.
In 1995, Bryan began working for ND White Engineering Services. He continued working for Nick White until the company was sold in 2023 to Palmetto Air and Water Balance. Bryan was very close to his work “family,” especially the whole White family, with whom he worked for 28 years. Until the day of his passing, he remained connected to and beloved by his coworkers at Palmetto as well.
Bryan was widely known throughout the Lubbock construction community as an incredibly smart, meticulous, and talented engineer. He was highly respected by colleagues and contractors alike, and he was regarded as an expert in resolving complex challenges in the HVAC Test and Balance field.
Bryan met his beloved wife, Sarah, during the summer of 1994 while working at a summer camp, and they married in 1996. Their son Noah was born in 2001 and their daughter Sage in 2002. Bryan was a devoted father who adored his children and supported them through every season of life with unconditional love. He was also a deeply loving and supportive husband.
Bryan and Sarah were looking forward to celebrating 30 years of marriage this coming June.
Around 2009, Bryan and his family began attending The Grace Church, where he eventually served as first a deacon, and later, an elder. Bryan loved his church family, formed many close friendships there, and was always ready to serve others whenever there was a need.
Bryan's most favorite hobby was golf–he played every chance he could, and often invited people he wanted to spend time with to golf with him. Additionally, he loved the outdoors, enjoying skiing, hiking, biking, and kayaking. In recent years, he and Sarah purchased a motorhome and treasured the trips they were able to take together.
Bryan is survived by his wife, Sarah; his children, Noah and Sage; his parents, Rick and Kathy McDowell; his brother Wade and his wife Brooke, and their children Kyler and Kamdyn; his
sister-in-law Holly Ross and her husband Craig, and their children Nathan, Zane, and Makenzie; and his in-laws, Margo, Rusty, Donna, and Lisa.
A family visitation will be held Friday, March 13, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel, 6025 82nd Street in Lubbock. A service will be held at The Grace Church on Saturday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m., 6007 66th Street.
Bryan will be remembered for his incredible kindness, generosity, integrity, and the intentional love he showed to those in his life. He was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone, and his life was a reflection of the faith and love he carried for others every day. His steady presence, servant’s heart, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His deep devotion to Christ shaped the way he lived, and we find peace in knowing he is now with his Lord. We look forward with confidence to being joyfully reunited with him in Heaven.
