Calvin C. “Pete” Quain, 95, passed away November 26, 2020 at the Veterans Home in Walsenburg, Colorado. Pete was born July 31, 1925 in Bangs, Texas. He was the youngest of 13 children (11 brothers, one sister). He served in the Navy Seabees in WW II, and was stationed at Camp Peary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
After an honorable discharge, he earned an accounting graduate degree from San Angelo Business College. He was a faithful member of the Kiwanis Club for many years in Lubbock, Texas. Pete was an accomplished poet and was published in the “Best Poems of 1996” by the National Library of Poetry. He traveled to Washington DC to cite his poem Cactus Jack and Carrie Lou, which is about a humorous farm family of the 1920s. His favorite subjects were humor and cowboy poetry.
Pete married the love of his life, Jeane Moore, in 1946. They spent their 64 years of married life in Christoval, Odessa and Lubbock.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Jeane in 2010, his parents and 12 of his siblings.
He is survived by his daughter Billie Hislop; granddaughter Christy (Duane) Myers; great-granddaughters Allison (Stephan) Roberts and Brenna Myers; and great-great grandson Hunter Roberts.
Pete had a remarkable sense of humor and will be greatly missed by people near and far.
