Charlotte Ann Martin McGowan

Charlotte was born to Rubert and Bernice Martin on January 8, 1947 in Brownfield, Texas. From an early age Charlotte knew that books in the library were her true passion.

She received her first of many Master’s Degrees from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas in 1969 and began her career. For the next 18 years she worked as a librarian for Texas Tech University.

She married Ronnie Hickson in 1965 and had two beautiful children, Kurt and Brandi Hickson. In 1988 she embarked on a new journey to teach young children the love of learning and new books.

Charlotte was the librarian of Campestre Elementary for Socorro ISD in El Paso, Texas until January 2015. She married Donald Eugene McGowan in 1989 who resides in their home in El Paso, Texas.

Charlotte is survived by her husband Gene McGowan of El Paso, Texas, her daughter Brandi Hickson of Lubbock, her son and daughter-in- law Kurt and Carrie Hickson of Lubbock, three grandchildren Desirae Hickson of Lake Dallas, Danielle Hickson of Denton, and Brian Hickson of Lubbock. Charlotte will be laid to rest across the path from her parents.
