I was so excited the first time I entered the KTXT studios. Dr. K told me at the time it would be the best memories of my college years. He was right!! He indeed taught, led, and advised with a gentle yet fierce loyalty for what he believed in. I was honored to be a part of what KTXT accomplished during the late 80's and early 90's and when KOHM found a voice. We as his students are forever imprinted with his guidance. God's richest blessings on you Dr. K! Thank you for being a difference maker!

I first met Dr. Kinghorn as a student over 40 years ago, and when I last spoke with him in the fall he was as kind, caring and interested as ever. He was always a source of solid advice and was fiercely protective of his former students.  Without Clive there would be no campus radio at Texas Tech, but his influence went far beyond that arena.  I'm nearing retirement now, but his legacy predates me and can still be seen in the eyes of present-day students.  We laughed, we argued, then we always joined forces--I even had my ultimate revenge when I hired him to engineer the Tech football broadcasts back in the '80's.  Adios, my friend and advisor...Vaya Con Dios!

Dr. Kinghorn left a great legacy.  He lived with humility, kindness, dignity, and humor.  He taught these qualities to his students and employees through daily interactions.  He gifted the Lubbock Area with KOHM-FM public radio, where I was honored to work under him in 1989.  He was an excellent manager, mentor, and friend.  Dr. Kinghorn will be missed but the positive impact of his life will live on.

Clive Kinghorn is a modern day hero for me personally. He was the powerful machine behind the establishment of KTTZ FM (KOHM originally).All Lubbock area classical music, NPR and PRI fans are indebted to this man.Thank you a thousand times over, Dr. Kinghorn.

Dr. Kinghorn forever touched the lives of an amazing number of students in his 30 years at Tech. His encouragement and support were unmatched. He made a difference every day in the classroom and at KTXT. We are all better people because of our time with Dr. Kinghorn. He was the best!

Dr. K. was a dear, sweet, smart and caring man, whose impact was wide and deep. From my era alone at KTXT, his guidance helped create two editors, a sports broadcaster, two promotion directors, two Comms pros, a film commission director, a lawyer, an entrepreneur... Dr. K was instrumental in getting me back to Tech after mom died, and his door was always open as I knocked out the last two years of school. He always had time. I am sorry for your loss, and am so grateful for his life. God bless.

Dr. Kinghorn was someone I worked with at TTU but more than that he was a FRIEND, someone I loved and admired.  when he left the University, his  presense was sorely missed.  I do know that he thought very much of his kids as he spoke lovingly of you many times. I always looked forward to running into him and Janice after retirement.  Dr Kinghorn was a fine gentleman and one I was proud to call my friend. God speed Dr. Kinghorn.

I will never ever forget the time he came up to the KTXT studios to sing the BYU fight song in exchange for two checks from Ryan Hyatt and John Haskins during SWC media days.

He was one of the people who told me that I had potential even when I doubted myself. 

There isn't enough pages for the words that encompass this man. He was not a teacher, he was a guide. He was not just a mentor but someone with just one look could make you smile like you defeated the world, and with one frown, you knew you messed up good.

My entire career in radio is because of him and I am forever in his debt.

God speed Dr. K. I'll try and not curse on the air and one day I'll see you in the Weekend Assault in the sky.

You were a legend at Texas Tech... as a teacher, friend, and mentor.  Very few people can say they lived a life as fulfilled by making such a significant impact on the lives of so many young people.  You'll be dearly missed, Dr. K

You have my sympathies, condolences and prayers.  While in college, I had many good professors- but none made a lasting, strong impact like Dr. K.  He was a man of amazing character, integrity and humor.  I'm grateful for the years I was able to spend around Dr. K, and will carry his lessons a long time.

As a graduate student, Clive was one of several of my "bosses" at Tech. A couple of years later, as an instructor, he was a teaching colleague for two more years. A really nice man to work with and simply to know. Our thoughts and prayers for the family.

My heartfelt condolences for your loss.  As you undoubtedly know, there are many sharing that loss with you today.  Mr. K was a wonderful teacher, a patient mentor, a trusted counselor and a good, good friend.  No teacher or professor had greater impact on me than Mr. K.  My college experience was much richer due to his influence – and that influence continues to this day.  He is, and will continue to be, greatly missed.

I worked with Dr. Kinghorn in 1973-74 as Program Director at KTXT-FM. He was one of the finest teachers and finest men I have ever known. He was a mentor and advisor, but he never was heavy handed and treated us all as associates rather than students.  He greatly influenced how I work with people to this day.  Go with God Dr K.  May you rest in peace.

I think back fondly of working with Janice at Texas Tech and especially enjoy remembering her story of reaching 80 mph on the Brownfield Highway to prevent a student from passing her.  Janice, love to you and your family, Phil and Leslie Nash

I never met Dr. Kinghorn, but I've had the pleasure of working with his son, Dr. Brent Kinghorn, at Emporia State University. I am sure the measure of the father is present in the commendable character of his son. My warmest sympathies go out to the entire Kinghorn family.

Many college kids have a person of great influence that turned them in the direction their life would take, Dr K was that professor that created a spark in me as a punk 20 year old.   His guidance (and sarcastic humor) helped define who I was and where I was headed. His laid back watchfulness over KTXT really allowed for success.   He's let you make mistakes, but not let you fail.  And afterwards you'd be quizzed as to what the more correct path should have been.   I don't think that I'd be the same person today without his influence.
The best part?  Mine is one in hundreds of such stories.  He impacted tons of us in similar ways.
Rest easy Dr K, I will miss you greatly.
To his friends and family,  an awesome man has passed, lets hold our memories dear and strive to make things better in ways he would have.

He was a compassionate, reasoned, extremely likable man. I have referred to Dr. K as "my mentor" in the many tales I've told of, what I now know were: the good old days.

I enjoyed innumerable conversations with him during my tenure at KTXT as well as a few (too few) after we had all moved on.

He was definitive in the direction of my path due to his passion, his dedication, professionalism and his courage to always say/do the right thing.

I am so very sorry for your loss; it has repercussions beyond the telling.

Dr. Kinghorn was a great influence in my young life and I very much value his mentorship while in college.  I was a shy, skinny Hispanic kid from central Texas who was first in his family to go to college, but Dr. Kinghorn gave me the confidence to feel like I belonged and could excel at whatever I pursued in life.  He was fun yet stern.  He let you know when he was disappointed, but never failed to pat you on the back when you did well.  Rest in eternal peace Dr. K.  Thanks for the positive role you played in my life.

Clive Kinghorn was one of my mentors at Texas Tech. He made working at the radio station, KTXT-FM, fun but he always made sure we were doing our business the right way. He was just such an important part of my days at Tech and many things I learned from him then, I continue to use in my career today. My thoughts are with his family today. Rest in Peace Clive Kinghorn. You will be missed.
