Dean Watkins

Dean Watkins passed May 8, 2012 near Fort Sumner NM. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home with Pastor Steve McMeans officiating. Dean was born January 31, 1941 in Clovis, New Mexico to Claude and Mae Irene Brown Watkins. He grew up Northwest of Muleshoe and graduated from Lazbuddie High School. Dean received a degree in History from Texas Tech and was an active member and alumni of the Fiji Fraternity. Dean was a Marine Reservist. He worked for several companies in the I.T. field ending his career as a Park Ranger with the State and National Park Services. Dean was an avid reader and naturalist and loved history accumulating an extensive library over his lifetime. He was a proud grandfather who enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events. Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer (Tom) Johnston of Lubbock; brother, Glen (Marsha) Watkins of Plainview; sister, Coretta ( Gaylon) Kerr of Lubbock; three beautiful grandchildren, Patric, Will and Molly; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth Watkins.
