
Dick Pollard died peacefully at home on October 1, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Family and friends will celebrate his life of 89 years at 11 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2018, at First United Methodist Church. Following the memorial, committal services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to share memories and expressions of sympathy at www.memorialdesigners.net.He was born April 6, 1929, on a farm south of Avery, Texas in Red River County. He was the third child of Bessie Edith Baker Pollard and Jesse Ebert Pollard. Dick graduated from high school in Avery, Texas, as the valedictorian of his class and the captain of the football team. He proudly served in the Marine Corp at the tail end of WWII. The GI bill enabled Dick to attend Sam Houston State University where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master degrees in Agricultural Education.He and his brother, Bill Pollard, entered the automobile business in 1953 in Roscoe, Texas. Dick became a Ford dealer in Carlsbad, New Mexico, in 1957 and in 1966 he purchased the Ford dealership in Lubbock, Texas. This dealership operated as Pollard Friendly Ford. Mr. Pollard served as president of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association. He was a 32° Mason and a Shriner. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and enjoyed traveling all over the world. His greatest joys were traveling with his family to unique destinations. One of his favorite pastimes was soaking up the views of the Colorado mountains. Dick loved living in Lubbock and contributed generously to the community.He was married to Blonnie Blanche Hollis from 1951 until 1970. In 1973 he married Susan Fletcher Ross. They celebrated 45 years of marriage in June.Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Pollard and Jesse Pollard, his siblings, Robbie Lee House, William Jess Pollard and James Monroe Pollard. Dick, or “Mr. Pollard”, as he preferred to be called, is survived by his wife, Susan Fletcher Pollard; his sons, Jesse Richard Pollard; Dr. Robert Stephen Pollard, his wife Shawnice; his daughters, Katherine Pollard Beggs and her husband Randall; Dr. Cara Flynn Pollard; and Christine Pollard Paddock and her husband Warren. Grandchildren: Eric Spencer Pollard and his wife Nicole; Tarryn Breanna Pollard, Scarlett Danae Pollard, Nicholas Flynn Beggs, Mary Katherine Beggs, Jackson Richard Paddock, Georgea Elise Paddock and Lillian Elizabeth Paddock. Great grandchildren: Zane Joseph Pollard and Anna Mae Pollard. Lastly, he is survived by his “obedient” hunting dog, Iris, and his numerous nieces and nephews.
