Doris Harden

Alma Doris Harden, age 84 died Monday, September, 6, 2010, at 8:03 a.m. in Lubbock, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church, 7801 Indiana, Lubbock, TX with Pastor David Rohde officiating under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Resthaven.

Doris Harden was born October 28, 1925 to Alma Elizabeth Ellingboe and Joe A. Wilson, Sr. in Dallas, TX. The Wilson family moved to Oklahoma City, OK in 1934.

She graduated from Classen High School, Okla. City in 1943 and entered nursing training at St. Anthony Hospital, Okla. City. She completed Nurse Anesthetist training at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, LA in 1948 and practiced anesthesia at hospitals in Sheboygan, WI, Memphis, TN, Pine Bluff, AR and Plainview, TX. While working in Plainview, she met Charles Thomas Harden, Jr. and they married October, 1953. In 1954, Doris and Charles moved to Lubbock where they made their home and raised their four children. She continued her career as a Nurse Anesthetist at various hospitals in the Lubbock and surrounding South Plains area, until retiring in 1987, while also raising her granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Welch. She was a very involved member of her church, active volunteer in her community, and loving daughter, mother, and grandmother.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles in 1986; a daughter, Susan Elizabeth Welch in 1984; and her son, a twin, Thomas Dale Harden in 1985.

Doris is survived by two brothers, Joe A. Wilson, Jr. of Amarillo; James C. Wilson and wife, Jeanne Wilson of Chesterville, MD; one son, Douglas and wife, Donna Harden of Austin; one twin daughter, Shirley and husband, Mike Newman of Dalhart; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to your favorite charity of choice, Hospice care facilities, LCMS Seminary fund, or Vista Care Hospice of Lubbock.
