Ennis E. Moss, Jr, passed away September 8, 2018. He was born on October 19, 1922 to Gladys and Ennis Moss Sr. in Dallas, Texas. The family moved to Roaring Springs, Texas in 1924 and to Lubbock in 1934. Ennis graduated from Lubbock High in 1939, attended Texas Tech and graduated from the University Of Tennessee College Of Medicine with an M. D. Degree in 1945. He married Elizabeth Hunter of Inverness, Mississippi in 1944.
Ennis served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II at the 248th General Hospital in the Philippine Islands. After discharge from the Army in 1946 he did postgraduate work at Harvard Medical School and served in a residency at the Memphis Eye and Ear Hospital. He entered into the private practice of Ophthalmology in Lubbock but was called back into service during the Korean War and served as Chief of the Eye Clinic at the US Army Hospital in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After discharge in 1954 he again entered into the private practice of Ophthalmology in Lubbock until he retired in 1988. Ennis was a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Local and State Society, and AMA.
He was in the ranching business for years. Ennis was an avid pilot and flew his “Little Airplane” all over the North American continent to attend medical meetings and various fly-ins.
Ennis was preceded in death by his lovely wife Elizabeth of 69 years; a son Lee Moss; brothers, Hoyle and James Moss. He is survived by his children, Carolyn Bartley of Houston, Hunter Moss of Minneapolis, Minn., and Kirk Moss and wife, Judy of Austin; three grandchildren, Bret Bartley and wife Michelle of San Antonio, Jenny Leporis and husband, George, of Dallas and Mandy Moss of Dallas; and three great grandchildren, Katelyn and Morgan Bartley and Paxton Leporis; daughter-in-law, Linnie Moss and a sister-in-law, Frances Moss.
The family suggests donations be made to Meals on Wheels or the Second Baptist Building Fund.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm September 11, 2018 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 am, September 12, 2018 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home &; Memorial Park, Lubbock, TX.
