Erie Etta was born on November 14th, 1928, just outside of Fort Worth, in Terrell, Texas, to Atheleen Gray and James Franklin Cannon. Erie Etta was one of six children who, following their mother's passing, would be taken in by their aunts and uncles. Erie Etta found her home with Carl and Josie Peabody, and was so very thankful for the love they showed her.
On August 25th, 1950, Erie Etta married the love of her life, Herbert Williams in Canyon, Texas. Together, Erie Etta and Herb built a beautiful life together and welcomed their beloved son, Dan, into the world. Erie Etta provided a loving, nurturing home for her son, and supported her husband in all his ventures in life.
Erie Etta was a driven woman and set out to make a lasting career for herself. Erie Etta devoted 47 years to the Lubbock Independent School District and the Career and Technology Programs. During this time, she would nurture hundreds of students, always saying that they should come first. Those who worked closely with Erie Etta recall how hard-working she was, showing up every day to support her students and fellow teachers.
While her career was near and dear to her heart, the biggest joy in her life was her family. Her husband Herb, and the light of her life, Dan, her son. After retirement Erie Etta enjoyed the scenic views and quiet atmosphere of Ruidoso, New Mexico with her family.
Later in life, Erie Etta would return to Lubbock, and call Carillon home. Here she met and befriended numerous fellow residents and caregivers. Even when Erie Etta became very ill and was in pain she always had to ensure those around her were taken care of - always asking if they were doing ok.
Erie Etta had many friends who will remember her compassion, her love for Dr. Pepper and chocolate bars, and whose steady presence and enduring strength will be deeply missed.
Erie Etta was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Herbert Williams; son, Dan Williams; and her four brothers, Eli, Frank, Robert, and Richard.
She is survived by her sister, Jane Smith, of Dallas, Texas; and her cousin Carolyn Blackstock (with whom she grew up with) of Grandbury, Texas.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday March the 4th at 10 am at the Texas Tech Memorial Mausoleum located in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
