Ethel D. Williams entered heaven March 18, 2013 after 87 wonderful years full of love and memories. A visitation will be held Wednesday March 20, 2013 at Resthaven Funeral Home from 5:30 pm until 7pm. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday March 21, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Southcrest Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Henderson officiating.
Ethel was born on May 23, 1925 in Munday, Texas to the late James Alvin and Ida Lillian Floyd. In February 1948 she married J.B. Williams, Jr. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She worked as a floor supervisor at Furr’s Cafeteria at Caprock Center for 13 years before retiring. She loved her family unconditionally, just like her Savior loved her.
She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, four siblings; two grandchildren Scott and Tracy Williams.
Ethel is survived by her daughter Theresa Gail Hays and husband Brad of Lubbock, Sons Roger Williams and wife Margaret of Corsicana, Texas. Derel Williams and wife Nita of Allen, Texas, Jerel Williams and wife Patti of Goldendale, Washington, Bobby Williams and wife Barbara of Lubbock.
Grandchildren Brooke and Allison Estep, Kim Younklin, Amy, Jennifer and Bryan Williams, April Litke, Kristine Cooper, and Ashley and Aaron Hays. Ethel was also blessed with many great-grandchildren.
Ethel loved to cook and made the very best Sour Cream Pound Cake you've ever tasted. She enjoyed canning and was frugal. She loved to read her Bible and be with family. Her favorite color was red and she loved apples, strawberries and watermelon, all which were red! She also LOVED Krispy Kreme Donuts. Theresa would bring her donuts nearly every morning and they would sit and visit before Theresa went to work. It was a special time. After she retired, she traveled with a friend to Washington State and saw the ocean for the first time.
Ethel did not put her treasure in material things. She found her joy in others and in relationships. She forged many friendships during her time at Furr's Cafeteria and was loved by residents and staff at Bender Terrace Nursing home where she lived for 11 1/2 years. She had an innocent heart and always saw the best in others.
While going through her worn Bible, her family discovered a precious story about the sweet courtship between her and J.B. as well as countless highlighted verses and messages. What a gift!
A special thanks to Bender Terrace Nursing and Southcrest Baptist Church Nursing Home Ministry for their tender love and care.
Donations may be made to Southcrest Baptist Church or Hospice of Lubbock.
