Gary R Blackburn

Gary Ray Blackburn, 63, of Lubbock, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010, after a five year hard fought battle with lung cancer. Gary was born January 13, 1947 in Seymour, TX. He attended schools in Happy, Texas and served in the United States Army from 1965-1967. He graduated from South Plains College and attended Texas Tech University. Gary was a commercial/residential self employed contractor. His early interests were participating in rodeos. He enjoyed Texas Tech Athletics and in later years he especially enjoyed golf with his friends at Shadow Hills Golf Club. Gary also loved his family, enjoyed life and cooking for friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents Gladys and Arthur Blackburn. Gary is survived by his wife Jeninne of 43 years; son Brent and wife Lori with grandchildren Lauren and Jake of Rockwall, TX; sister Charlene Cole and husband Fred of Amarillo; brother William “Bill” J. Blackburn of Memphis; Jimmy Lee Blackburn and wife Judy of Idalou; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be conducted by Resthaven at 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 23, 2010, in the Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel. His request is for cremation and ashes to be spread in the Brazos River at a later date. Family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
