He was born in Wellington, TX on December 10, 1936 to Grady and Esther Phillips.
Gary attended Wellington High School, graduating in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane Neil, in 1956. Shortly after, they moved to Lubbock, TX where he attended Texas Tech. During that time, he began his career with Piggly Wiggly and Furr’s Super Market later joining Furr’s Cafeteria where he became the Director of Food Services.
Gary’s favorite role was that of a grandparent. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Boompa.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane Neill Phillips, his son Tony Phillips, and his sisters Joyce Pritchard and Donna Clark.
He is survived by his wife Kay Brian Phillips, his children; Tammy Floyd and husband Rick of The Colony, TX; Tim Phillips and wife Kim of Omro, WI; and Todd Phillips and wife Krys of Lubbock, TX; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Additionally, he is survived by Kay’s children, Kristi Sepkowitz and husband David of Lubbock, TX; Kellie Williams and husband Monte of Floydada, TX; and Kendall Brian of Temple, TX;
7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Southcrest Baptist Church with the graveside service to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Services will be livestreamed at southcrestlive.tv.
