Gilberto was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Gilberto dedicated many years of his life to his work before retiring in 2017. He had a deep passion for music and spent many years playing the accordion in multiple bands throughout Lubbock and the surrounding areas. Music was not just a hobby for Gilberto it was part of who he was, and he shared that gift with his community and loved ones.
Above all, Gilberto cherished his family. He is survived by his sons, Gilbert Delafuente Jr. and Alfredo Delafuente. His step children Erma Ramos , Fernando Villanueva, Ora Perry, Yolanda Kennedy. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Danielle Mendoza, Gilbert Delafuente III, Sammy Delafuente, James Bustos, and Gabrielle Hernandez, along with 22 great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.
Gilberto had multiple siblings Maria de la Fuente Lerma, Santos de la Fuente Lerma, Josefina de la Fuente Lerma, Norberto de la Fuente Lerma, Maria Luisa de la Fuente Lerma, Maria del Refugio de la Fuente Lerma, Norma Leticia Lerma, and Maria de Lourdes Hernandez Lerma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Esqueda Delafuente and his parents, Maria del Refugio Lerma Garza and Alfredo de la Fuente.
Gilberto will be remembered as a loving family man, a talented musician, and someone who truly enjoyed life. His jokes, laughter, and music will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his beloved wife and is now at peace with God.
