He was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, by Frances Mae Carlson and Herman Ray Sherrod and was the youngest of 3 siblings.
Greg graduated from Monterey High School and was very involved in sports from a young age. On October 19, 1976, he married the love of his life, Cheri. They loved to play Foosball with friends, softball, bowl, attend concerts, and throw big dance parties together. Eventually, they had 3 children and continued the fun life, including family BBQs, family vacations, camping, and fishing at the lake on the weekends.
Greg was very proud of being a Mail Clerk for the Lubbock Post Office and had just celebrated his 50-year working anniversary. He was the first one to receive "The Long Haul" award and didn't call in sick for 48 years.
Greg was very dedicated to work and making sure his family was taken care of. He played baseball from the age of 6, played co-ed with his wife, got to coach his own son, and then continued to play softball until he was 50 years old.
Greg enjoyed antique shopping, car shows, cruises, gambling, golf, concerts, and trips to the lake and mountains. He also really enjoyed playful banter and responding to comments about his purple hair. Before the passing of his mother, he enjoyed reading the Bible with her every day while having lunch at her kitchen table.
Greg leaves behind his wife of 48 years (Cheri), his sister Annette Dickinson, his son Josh Sherrod (Lindy), his oldest daughter Jennifer Burns (Alan), his youngest daughter Jojo Rodriguez (Thomas), and 9 grandchildren who referred to him as "Pop".
He is preceded in death by his mother Frances, father Herman, and brother Robert. Greg will be dearly missed as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, neighbor, and coworker.
