Our beloved husband, father, and granddad went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 19, 2014. Harold was born June 19, 1928 to Kenneth and Mabel Williams in Watseka, Illinois. He graduated high school there and joined the Air Force in 1946. He served as a navigator on a B17 and held the record for precision bombing. Harold married Veda in Cor de Laine, Idaho on December 20, 1947. He started his long career in sales with J.C. Penney Co. and felt very fortunate to know Mr. Penney. After moving to Texas in 1961, Harold became a salesman for Womack Brokerage Company which later became Casserole Pinto Bean. He retired as national sales director after 50 years of service in 2011 at age 83. In younger years he enjoyed snow skiing, trout fishing, and was an accomplished horseman. In his dreams he was a cowboy; spurred on by his favorite author, Elmer Kelton. One of the high points of his life was sitting next to Roy Rogers on an airplane and reading him John 3:16. Harold came to know our Lord Jesus at Friendship Baptist Church in Abilene in 1961. He was a long-time member of Bacon Heights Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and greeter. Harold never knew a stranger and shared his love of the Lord with everyone he came in contact with. His love for Jesus took him on mission work to Mexico and Kenya. Harold is survived by his wife, Veda Williams of Lubbock; two daughters, Sherry Piel and her husband James of Garland, Texas; and Melissa Hays of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren, Robbie Piel and wife, Catherine of Nashville, Tennessee; Randy Piel of Dallas, Texas; Emily and Zachary Hays of Lubbock, Texas; three great grandchildren, Alaina, Anna and Elijah Piel of Garland, Texas as well as his sister, Helen Adams of Watseka, Illinois and his brother, Richard Williams of Clinton, Illinois .
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the building fund for Bacon Heights Baptist Church.
