The year was 1945...WWII had just ended. Harry S. Truman became President after the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Home prices averaged about $7,500 or you could rent a nice place for $60.00. A New car would run you about $1,000 and gas was only $.15. A movie ticket was .35 and a box seat to the 7th games of the 1945 World Series ran a whopping $7.50. The average non-farm wage was 2,600 which is $216 per month or $54 per week or $1.35 per hour.
Hits songs of 1945 include Sentimental Journey by Doris Day, Don't Fence Me In by Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters
Into this crazy world was born a baby girl, Hazel Lorraine, to Ennis and Alvie Griffin on September 11, in Lubbock TX. She was the 12th of 15 children. The family moved around a bit as Ennis went wherever the work was. But from 4th grade to 10th grade the family settled down and Lorraine attended Roosevelt School. It was there she met and married the love of her life Jerry Don Creed. They had three children, Donald born 1962, Jerry born 1967 and Tammy born 1969.
Lorraine enjoyed being a homemaker, wife and mother. After the kids all started school, she went to work at Pioneer Nissan as a service writer even though she knew little about cars. Later she enjoyed work at Discovery Depot Day Care where she was the cook, housekeeper and then teacher.
Her faith journey began young at the Church of Christ where she learned some of the basics of the Christian faith. Her children were bused to Bethany Baptist on Quaker. On the church's 4th anniversary, Lorraine attended services with her children and at that point her Christian faith became personal. As she grew in her faith, Lorraine became a Sunday School teacher and did so for 16 years.
Eventually, being closer to home, she started attending Hurlwood Baptist now known as The Fellowship.
Lorraine lost her husband on October 19, 2013. She is survived by her three children, 10 grandchildren
and 16 great grandchildren.
