

Helen S. Rodriquez went to be with the Lord on Jan. 26, 2013, at the age of 79. Helen was born to Paula Gallegos and Francisco John Sanchez on July 7, 1933 in Wellington, Kansas. She moved to El Paso where she met and married Jose Rodriquez in March of 1953 before finally settling in Lubbock, Texas. She served her country by assisting in the building of bombs. She loved the nursing profession and although not a nurse, became a medication aid, and finally assisted in caring of the elderly. Helen was a people person, never met stranger, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed reading and loved to crochet. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting her. Helen is survived by two children; Janie Gonzalez and boyfriend Jimmy Deckelman of Lubbock, TX, and James and wife Olga Rodriquez of Lubbock, TX; five granddaughters, April Benavidez, Angela Long, Rozalind Alston, Kim Polk, and Roxanne Rodriquez; Six great-grandchildren, Evan, Emma, and Elly Long, Haley Rodriquez, Ben and James Polk, and many loved, extended family members and friends. Helen was preceded in death by husband, Jose A. Rodriquez, her parents, Francisco and Paula (Gallegos) Sanchez, her siblings Mary Machado, Linda Diaz, Delia Sanchez, and John Alfredo Sanchez. A special thanks to the staff at Covenant Hospital who provided her with excellent care. Nurses unlimited who assisted her in the CBA program, and staff at Texas Heritage Oaks, who became an integral part of our family and loved her as their own. Special thanks to Odyssey Hospice for providing medical care and spiritual support.
