

Rev. Hoytt W. Rachels, Sr., 87, of Lubbock passed way on Saturday January 11, 2014 at his home. A visitation will be held on Tuesday January 14, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday January 15, 2014 at 1:00 pm in Resthaven Funeral Home’s Abbey Chapel.
Interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
He was born on January 17, 1926 in Scurry County, NC to the late Richard and Eva (Creed) Rachels. He joined the United States Army and served from 1948 until 1952. He reached rank Sergeant. He married Annie Bryant on September 13, 1960 and together they raised there family and served the Lord. He retired as the Pastor of Butler Heights Baptist Church and had been attending Rock of Ages Baptist Church.
God was the center of his life. He enjoyed preaching and took any opportunity to share Gods word. At his retirement he had been preaching for almost 50 years. During this time he led many to the Lord through the court systems, and a half way house.
Rev. Rachels is survived by 4 daughters, Carolyn Sue Rachels of Mocksville, NC, Kay Gray and Peggy Bryant both of Lubbock and Nancy Keith of Darrohzett, TX; 3 sons, Clifton Brown and wife Vicki of Lubbock, Hoytt Rachels III and wife Rita of Shallowater, TX and Gerald Dean Rachels of Salisbury, NC; 24 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 children, Collette Shannon, Janet Rios and Sonny Rachels.
