J Lee Roberts

J Lee Roberts, 90 of Lubbock died Friday, May 6, 2016, in Lubbock while residing at Serendipity house. He was born April 3, 1926 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Lee and Eva J Roberts. He graduated from Carter High School in Fort Worth. At 17 he joined the Army and at 18 he was sent to Fort Bliss El Paso for training. Soon thereafter he was sent to the European theater of the war and served as an Intelligence Observer for the 75th Division. He spent most of his military time in Belgium.

After World War II he attended art school in Paris, France, where he met Margaret Clampitt. Margaret was in Paris with her parents as her father was working with the Marshal plan. Margaret and J married in 1950 and stayed in Europe serving as missionaries in Liege, Belgium from 1954-1966. While in Liege, J became the beloved father of Jim, Steve and Debbie. Upon their return to the U.S. J taught at Harding University, then Lubbock Christian University where he taught from 1970-1995. After his retirement in 1995 he received the distinction of Associate Professor Emeritus of Art.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Margaret, his parents, and one brother Don Roberts (surviving wife Bonnie). He is survived by: two brothers, Ray (wife Wanda) and Rodney Roberts (wife Cheryl); two sons, Jim Roberts (and wife Debby); Steve Roberts (and wife Dr. Joyce Roberts); and one daughter, Debbie Griffin (and husband Dr. Kent Griffin); 7 grandchildren - Keziah, Ben, Laura, David, Danielle, Alisha, and Hallie; 6 great grandchildren - Abigale, Sam, Ayden, Annelise, Avery and Grace.

J's greatest achievement came not with the accolades associated with this life, but with the knowledge that he would live eternally with his Savior Jesus. It was out of the love of God that he passionately taught others of the redemption through the blood of the cross.
