Jack Travis Peddy, Sr. was born on April 18, 1931 to Willis E. and U. Edna (Blackburn) Peddy, in the Vera community of Knox County, TX. On February 14, 2021, many friends and loved ones were left with cherished memories of his 89 years of life.
He attended Cotton Wood and Vera schools, and was then drafted by the U. S. Army in 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He served most of two years active duty in Germany training in the motor pool where he learned to be a highly skilled diesel mechanic.
After leaving the Army, he continued driving and working on trucks in the Permian Basin oilfields for Cactus Transport, later known as Permian Corporation; then 20 years in Lubbock for Bruckner Truck Sales from which he retired in 1993. He then delivered trucks as a part-time driver throughout the lower United States for several dealerships until he was 84 years young.
He loved the Lord and while in Lubbock, he was a charter member of Broadview Baptist Church and loved the congregation as his own family. One of his favorite pastimes as a historian was checking up on old friends and acquaintances in the world-famous Baylor County Banner published in Seymour, Texas.
He dearly loved the Vera High School Pilots and attended many reunions in Vera, Texas over the years. He loved playing dominoes and card games, deciding he was worried that one day it may become habit forming. In August of 2020, he moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma to be with his son and granddaughters. He never met a stranger and had the gift of common ground with everyone he met, a true gift of character and a genuine heart which in turn endeared him to so many.
He married Daisy Ann (Merritt) Peddy in 1963, in Midland and is survived by his son, Jack Travis Peddy, Jr. (Lisa) and two granddaughters: Erin Peddy and Payton Peddy; Stepdaughter Linda (Robertson) Branson (Steve), stepson Bruce Robertson (Debby,) and stepdaughter Becky Smith.
After moving to Lubbock he married Mary Lou (Cox) Peddy in 1978 and is survived by stepdaughter Charla (Harvey) Edwards (Dan). He is survived by his brother, Willis E. Peddy, Jr; sister, Patsy (Peddy) Hawkins. He is also survived by several step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. A very special thank you to relatives and close friends who always helped him in times of need who were sincerely loved by him and a true blessing in his life and heart.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Daisy, and wife, Mary Lou; his parents, the following siblings: Aubry (Buster) L. Peddy, Orville B. Peddy, Wanda Merle (Peddy) Shipman, Hyder (Doug) Peddy, Corabell (Peddy) Thomas, and Joyce La Nell (Peddy) Murphree. He was also preceded by stepson, Loy McDonald (Cissy) and stepdaughter, Melva (McDonald) Patrick.
