

James Truman Burton Jr. passed away on 8-1-15. He was born in Carlsbad, NM on 10-28-67 to Jean and James Burton. James graduated from New Deal High School where he was a member of the football and basketball teams and band. He attended Lubbock Christian University with a degree in teaching. James was an excellent teacher and was loved by his students.
He was previously employed at O’Hair Shutters, Bostick’s Auto and Truck Sales, Breedlove, City of Shallowater, Texas Forestry Service, and TNM&O Bus Line. He taught at several local schools and lastly for Willowbend Elementary School. He was employed at PNS and KLR Properties as a manager and director. James was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and Order of the Arrow. He served as Scoutmaster for Troops 505 & 515. James enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. James was also a member of the Shallowater Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years (Captain). He was a licensed EMT. James touched so many lives through his many roles. He also served as a Weather Spotter and thoroughly enjoyed making sure the communities of West Texas were safe. James was a member of Bacon Heights Baptist Church where he served as a preschool teacher. Volunteerism was his middle name.
He is survived by his parents, James and Jean; his wife, Karen; his children, Andrew, Allison, Nicholas and Ashton; his sisters, Cory and Diana (Rob); his nieces, Misty (Lee), Vanessa (Chris), Amy (Hunter), Samantha (Andrew); nephews, Kacy and Matthew; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws and outlaws.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions can be made to the Shallowater Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
