It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Lynn McKinzie, who died on December 4, 2025. James was a man known for his quiet strength, steady presence, and the deep love he held for his family. His loss leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
Born on July 4, 1950, in Lubbock, Texas, James lived a life shaped by dedication, integrity, and compassion. He built a long and respected career as a medical technologist, serving countless patients through his skill, precision, and unwavering commitment to quality care. His work reflected who he was—steady, reliable, and always focused on helping others.
James had many passions that filled his life with joy. One of his greatest was quilting, a craft he approached with patience, creativity, and love. His quilts became treasured gifts—warm, comforting pieces of art stitched with care.
He also loved to travel, especially throughout the United States for his work. Seeing new places brought him excitement and energy, and of all the states he visited, Alaska held a special place in his heart. Its beauty and peacefulness drew him back again and again, and eventually he and Debbie purchased a vacation home there—a place where he felt truly at home.
Above all, James was a devoted father and grandfather, and nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his grandchildren. Whether teaching them, laughing with them, or simply enjoying their company, those moments were among the brightest in his life.
James is survived by his loving wife, Debbie McKinzie; his children, Tamran McKinzie and Curtis McKinzie (wife Camille); his cherished grandchildren, Liam, Lily, and Liesl; his two sisters, Ann Haller and Brenda Green (husband Randy); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Grady, his mother Katherine, and his two brothers Ed and Gary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, a meaningful way to honor James’s generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others.
James Lynn McKinzie will be deeply missed, but the love he gave, the adventures he embraced, the beautiful quilts he created, and the values he lived by will continue on through everyone whose lives he touched.
