James “Jimmy” Stabler was given the grand tour of heaven Wednesday morning by his daughter Teri Lynn. He was able to leave this world on his own terms at his home on the “North forty” in Lubbock with his family by his side.
Jimmy served this great country for 4 years in the Air Force. It was while stationed at Reese Air Force base, that he met his wife of 52 years, Sue Mangis at a skating rink. Jimmy was born in Foley, Alabama in 1939, and was an avid Crimson Tide fan. During his life he was able to convert many of his grand-kids to the “Crimson way of Life.”
On any given Saturday in the fall you could hear “Roll Tide” echoing through his home.
He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, cooking out, playing horse shoes, domino’s, and watching NASCAR. For a while, he drove the “kid’s church" bus on Saturday’s for Pastor Todd Turnbow and The Worship Center.
An awesome thing was that everyone who entered his house was considered “family.” He also loved Southern Gospel music. He wore many hats during his life, but the two he was most proud of was “Grand pa,” and “Great-Grand pa.”
He leaves behind his wonderful family, Sue, Rusty, Jeff, Stacy, Sherry, Darron, Chrystal, Keith, Ashley, Weston, Joshua, Justin , James, Alex, Lindsay, Karlie, Carson, and Ace.
Funeral services will be held 10 am , Monday, April 9, 2012, at Powerhouse Church located at 7117 Santa Fe Drive.
Visitation will be Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.
