Jana Carol Dickey, of McKinney, Texas, was fully healed in Heaven on November 5, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was 70 years old. Known for being fashionably late, she departed this earth far too early.
Jana was born in Odessa, Texas, on July 8, 1955, to Johnny “Bud” Doyle and Patricia “Pat” Christeen Loyd. She graduated from Permian High School in 1973 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Professions from Southwest Texas State University in 1979.
In 1983, Jana’s son, Clinton, was born, followed by daughter, Laura, in 1986. Two years later, on October 1, 1988, Jana married Jim Dickey, father to Jim and Amanda, and the two families became one.
Jana served her communities in Lubbock, Snyder, and McKinney as a probation officer for 30 years and spent the final years of her career as a court officer. She was passionate about her work and retired from Collin County Community Supervision and Corrections Department in 2019, having helped countless individuals rebuild their lives.
Jana’s faith was important to her throughout her life. On August 15, 2021, she was baptized by her husband, Jim, at Shawnee Trail Church of Christ, a testament to her love for God and family.
Jana was the life of every party, and her infectious energy filled any room she entered. She was smart and thoughtful, yet she also knew that having fun was an essential part of a good life.
A lifelong athlete, Jana continued to slalom waterski well into her 60s. She was also an avid pickleball player, loved water aerobics and snow skiing, and could still perform a full baton twirling routine from memory. She loved to dance and never missed a chance to tear up the dance floor.
Truly one-of-a-kind, Jana was known for her own unique way of saying things. “Jana-isms,” as her family affectionately calls them, included FBI instead of FYI, mummy in place of mannequin, and millenniums instead of millennials.
She loved the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Dallas Cowboys, her Scotties, and her Goldendoodles, Coco and Ginger. But most of all, Jana loved her family and friends. Her home was a place where all were welcome, and family and friends regularly gathered around her table. Jana showed up for people when it mattered and had a way of making everyone feel included, important, and loved.
She was a faithful wife, a loving mother, a devoted Grandma and Nana, and a cherished friend.
Jana is survived by her husband, Jim Dickey, and children, Clinton Calmes and wife Megan of Flower Mound, Laura Brandenburg and husband Howell of Plainview, Jim Dickey and wife Amy of Tempe, Arizona, and Amanda Gordon and husband Mike of West Plains, Missouri. She leaves behind 13 adoring grandchildren: Kasey Switzer; Anita and Marie Knoll; Cayden and Hayden McElwee; Aaron and Evan Gordon; Miles Prince; Karissia and Blair Dickey; Emmerson, Halle, and Charleigh Brandenburg; and many other beloved family members and friends.
Jana was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Pat Loyd, and her brother Johnny “Andy” Loyd.
A memorial service will be held at Shawnee Trail Church of Christ in Frisco, Texas on November 13 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a chapel service and burial at Resthaven in Lubbock, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on November 15, FBI.
In lieu of flowers the family request donation be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
