Janice Ann Ashley

The family of Janice Ann Ashley will celebrate her life of 90 years at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at Ralls Cemetery. Her family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. She was the youngest of 4 children, and they called her “Hope Last ‘Un” (i.e., “Hope she’s the last one”!)Her parents, R.N. and Claudius Irvin moved the family up to the plains to farm a section of land near Farmer (Crosby County) in 1934. It was bank land and promised to them if they could get rid of the Johnson grass. The six of them dug up every single rhizome!Janice married Floyd Ashley (both Ralls High School exes) on February 5, 1949, at Novel Young’s office, Broadway Church of Christ. They moved to Hale Center in 1954, and she moved to Lubbock in 2006. She was a member of Kings Ridge Church of Christ.Janice is survived by her daughter, Gail Bateman (Tom) of Memphis, Tennessee; and her granddaughter, Kellie Page (Jeff) of Kansas City, Missouri; two great-granddaughters, Abby and Rayna Page; her favorite nephew, Danny Norris of Lubbock, and many Ashley, Irvin, and Norris nieces, nephews, and their families.She was an excellent homemaker, avid gardener, seamstress, did needlework, loved fishing, and was a dedicated church member.Special thanks to Sam, Marsha, Amy, and all the other wonderful caregivers at Belle Court South and Carillon in general. There is no better staff in Lubbock.Janice joked with us to put on her headstone, “I canned a great jar of green beans!”. She was “something else”!
