We will gather for a Vigil, where friends and family will recite the rosary today, November 20, 2018, at 7 p.m. followed by a reception at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 65 years at 10 a.m. on November 21, 2018, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.Janie Mendez Flores was born on February 20, 1953, to Jesus and Refugia "Cuca" Hernandez Mendez in Tahoka, Texas. Juanita married Manuel Flores on March 12, 1971, in Lubbock, Texas. She worked as a custodian at First Baptist Church of Lubbock for 20 years and her plans were to retire in December of this year.Janie loved spending time with the family. No matter the circumstances just being around her brought joy to everyone and you just felt the love when she was around. She loved to go watch the Rangers play. Any chance she got she was ready to hit the road and leave her worries behind. During baseball season she would always find a way to volunteer and help out. She really enjoyed doing that with her grandkids, especially if they were the ones playing. She would make sure you heard her from the stands; baseball or football mom was going to be there yelling. She made THE BEST fried chicken and during the holidays she would "get down on" some tamales for the family. That was always one of the best times in our lives just being around each other cooking and eating with mom and dad singing karaoke to Jimmy Gonzalez songs, to be exact, his were their favorite songs. These were loving and happy times when we were all together. If you ever called her at night to check on her and dad and there was no answer, you knew where she was at...BINGO! Her second favorite place to be. She would never answer during the game but as soon as intermission hit she was calling you back to make sure everything was okay, to see what you wanted, or to tell you she hit the jackpot and she was going to stay until midnight. In conclusion, you know people always say they have the best mom and dad in the world, we don’t know how that could be when the best has been with us along. Mom and dad are one of kind. They taught us how to love, filled us with knowledge and compassion, and showed us how to respect one another. For that we thank them because without mom and dad we would not be here to celebrate the most beautiful loving wife and mother anyone could ask for. We know she is shining down on us and happy to see us so close as a family. She taught us to never leave each other and help each other when hard times hit, and to be here for dad. We will never forget that she loved us to the moon and back. We thank her for everything she has done for us, and for all the hugs and kisses she left imprinted on our hearts. Words can’t explain how much we much we love her. We will miss her and can’t wait to see her again, hug her and never let go of her. We love you mom TO THE MOON AND BACK.Survivors include her husband, Manuel Flores; children, Tina F.
