Doris Jean Whiteside has gone home to be with her Savior. Services for Jean will be held at 10 am, May 9, 2011 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 pm, Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Resthaven Funeral Home. She departed this life on Wednesday, May 4 at the age of 91. Doris Jean was born on August 13, 1919 in Waco, Texas to the late Albert and Roberta (Bass) Corvin. She married, Herman Whiteside, October 10, 1938 in Walters, Oklahoma. Jean and Herman enjoyed traveling, golf and their puppy dogs. Herman preceded her in death on December 12, 1988. Jean had been a resident of Lubbock for the past 50 plus years. In recent years, she enjoyed reading novels, watching Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, and the game of Skip-Bo. Only two days before she left us, she requested her Skip-Bo Cards in order to defeat any opponent, which she did on a regular basis.
Jean was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for many years. She knew she had a mansion in Heaven awaiting her home coming. Her walk with God was faithful and inspiring. Telling her “Little Angels” they would get a star in Heaven was a rewarding note and her way of saying how much she loved us.
Jean is survived by her wonderful friends. She wanted to thank her “Little Angels” for their friendship, love and support. But WE were the ones with the Angel, Ms Doris Jean. Although Jean had no children she was surrounded by a loving family of friends.
Jean was sincerely thankful for the care from Meals on Wheels, Beyond Faith, Carillon, Covenant Hospital and Palliative Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial to Meals on Wheels or American Cancer Society.
It was an honor and privilege to know her, and she will be truly missed. We know we will see her again in her mansion in the sky. Condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com
