Jeanye Wester (née Hunter), aged 66, passed away on September 21st, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on June 19th, 1958, in Shallowater, Texas, to Rachel and John Hunter. Through friends in Shallowater, Jeanye was introduced to the love of her life, Ashley Wester. They were married on July 31st, 1982, and spent 42 wonderful years together.
Jeanye graduated from Shallowater High School before continuing her education at Texas Tech University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in home economics and later West Texas A&M University where she received a master’s degree in education. Jeanye was a dedicated educator and touched the lives of many students in Frenship ISD and the TTU K-12 program.
When Jeanye wasn’t teaching, her second biggest passion was rescuing cats. Her caring spirit led her to take in stray cats and kittens in need of love and care and offer advice to those who were caring for sick cats. She was so devoted to her furry friends she put together a “Gato chateau” where they would have plenty of toys, climbers, and a safe home to come to. No matter how many furry friends she was caring for, she always had a name for each one and knew each cat apart from one another.
Jeanye is survived by her husband, Ashley Wester, her brother, Johnny (Dani) Hunter, nephew Jason (Stephanie) Hunter, niece, Jill (Rich) Overly, and grandchildren, Lexi Miles, John Kade Hunter, Kallan Hunter, and Eli Overly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jeanye’s memory to the South Plains SPCA.
