

Jerrell's family moved to Lubbock in 1947, but were in Sacramento, California area and Grand Prairie, Texas for war effort. Jerrell spent summers in Tom Oklahoma visiting his grandma Dillard. He loved two old mules and always talked about feeding them biscuits. He also was in Korea for two years, 1957 and1958. He came back to Tom and met Laura Baker, and they were married on May 16, 1959, right after her graduation.
They moved to Lubbock together and had four children; Lynne, Jerry, Rick, and Bryan. Jerrell was a truck driver, a Lubbock fireman for 11 years, and had various jobs. He ran an August Pie Route, and Laura took it over. They also drove cross country trucking together for 16 years. All 48 states and Canada. He retired due to heart issues. He never met a stranger, and their house was always full of neighboring kids and people they met. He was the biggest kid of all when it came to skating at the Roll Arena, owned by Polly, Henry, and now Dixie, who were family to all of us.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Mitchell; and grandson, Jared Mitchell. He is survived by his children: Lynne Bartosh and husband Walter Bartosh, Rick Mitchell and partner Mark Hodgin, and Bryan Mitchell and wife Cindy Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Raye Mitchell-Nichols; Grandchildren: Michael Polofka and wife Katie, Gary Polofka and spouse Bryant Glass, Malinda Polofka and spouse Trevor Odom, Dusty Mitchell and wife Mary, Shay Benton and wife Lyn, and Mitch Mitchell and wife Valerie; Great-Grandchildren: Zoey Polofka, Logan Polofka, Zelda Odom, Bryce Mitchell, Jordis Mitchell, Hope Russ, Skyler Benton and fiancée Railee, Jaelyn Benton and fiancée Winston, and Emersyn Lawrence.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park on May 24, 2026, from 2pm to 5pm.
