Jerry Milton Wilson was born September 27, 1932, in Waxahachie, Texas, to Sadie Smoak Wilson and Walter Lee Wilson. He went to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the age of 92. He was the second of five children and the only boy. He was accused of being spoiled but said, “No, I was too busy washing dirty diapers for all my little sisters.”
Jerry finished high school in Waxahachie, Texas. After a period of working, he felt the call to ministry and knew he must start a formal education, so he began attending Howard Payne College in Brownwood. In his senior year, he met and married the love of his life and future mate for 70 years, Nadell Stewart. He later graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
Jerry and Nadell have three children: David, Jerry Howell, and Lisa. He was so proud of them as they all grew up serving the Lord, and still do.
He pastored three Baptist churches – in Zephyr and Waxahachie, Texas, and El Dorado, Arkansas. In El Dorado, he pastored West Side Baptist Church for 35 years. During those years, the church bought land, built a new building, started a Christian School, and saw many people come to know the Lord and be baptized.
After retiring from West Side, he moved to Lubbock, Texas, in March 2000, where he accepted the position of Pastor of Senior Adults at Southcrest Baptist Church, where his son David was Senior Pastor. He ministered there for 20 more years before finally retiring again in 2020 because of health reasons.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Beatrice Tarver and Patricia Roberts.
Jerry leaves behind a host of loved ones. His wife Nadell, a son David and wife Laura of Lubbock, TX, a son Jerry Howell and wife Cathy of North Little Rock, AR, a daughter Lisa and husband David Voss of El Dorado, AR and nine grandchildren: Rachel Patterson (Steven) of Wichita Falls, TX, Joshua Wilson (Becca) of Nashville, TN, Amy Jones (Brian) of San Diego, CA, Lauren Throneberry (Corey) of Conway, AR, Randi Wilson of Conway, AR, Christopher Wilson of Nashville, TN, Kelsie Gillihan (Jake) of Batesville, AR, Olivia Spears (Karsen) of Conway, AR, Landon Voss of El Dorado, AR, and 12 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Barbara Davidson of Bartlesville, OK and Eugenia Barry of Kingsland, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews.
