

James Matthew Higdon passed away on February 12, 2019. A rosary service will be held today, February 14, 2019, at 6 p.m., at Lake Ridge Chapel, followed by a time of fellowship and remembrance from 7 until 8 p.m. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 85 years at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.Jim Higdon was born on January 12, 1934 to Lawrence and Nell Higdon in Calumet, Oklahoma. Jim married Cecilia Langley on October 5, 1957 at St. Alice Catholic Church in Plainview, Texas. He and Ceil were married for 61 years.Jim and Ceil began their marriage in Ft. Benning, Georgia where he served as a Captain in the United States Army. After his service, he pursued his career as an agronomist for Northrup King, Elcor Chemical, and Pioneer Hybrid Seed in Plainview, Texas until 1985, when he and Ceil moved to Des Moines, Iowa and later Buenos Aires, Argentina. After retiring from Pioneer, Jim attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, where he received his registered nursing license. Jim worked at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. He later worked for Hospice of Lubbock and Phoenix Home Health, in Slaton. He retired from nursing in 1999. He was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, children, and grandchildren.Survivors include his wife, Ceil; their children, James Michael Higdon, Mary Katherine Higdon, Paul Anthony Higdon and wife, Lorena; David Alan Higdon and wife, Lizette; Leslie Ann Hackett and husband, Brent; and Theresa Annette Daniel; grandchildren, Grace, Paul, Isaac, Maximiliano, Ryan, Ashley, and Alyssa Higdon; Jordan Hackett, Jacob Hackett and wife, Taryn, Lindsey and Kyla Daniel; great-grandchild, Xoe Hamby; and siblings, John Higdon and wife, Barbara; and sister, Martha Higdon.He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Nell Higdon; son, Mark Andrew Higdon; and grandson, Lawrence Elwood "Woody" Higdon.
