
Jimmy Don Franklin, age 77, passed away peacefully in his Bossier City home surrounded by his wife, Lucy, his daughter, Tara, and his son, Todd on Friday, April 25, 2025. Jimmy was born in Lubbock, TX, to Aubrey and LaRue Franklin on November 6, 1947.
Jimmy received a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Texas Tech University in Kinesiology. Jimmy was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Upon graduation, Jimmy worked in retail for Dillard’s beginning in Little Rock, Arkansas, then transferred to Shreveport, Louisiana for many years. When the casinos came into Shreveport, Jimmy saw an opportunity and became a casino dealer for the remainder of his career.
Jimmy was a member of the University Church of Christ. He loved the Lord foremost and his wife, children, grandchildren, and pets. He had a very optimist personality and was always smiling. He enjoyed all sports, but loved football the most, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. Jimmy also enjoyed the movie theater, always looking forward to an outing to see a new show.
Jimmy is survived by wife of 36 years, Lucy Franklin; daughter, Tara Cook of New Orleans; son, Todd (Kelly) Franklin of Baton Rouge; his brother, Rickey (Julie) Franklin of Malaysia; and two grandchildren, Kelsey and Camryn Cook. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and LaRue Franklin.
A celebration of life service honoring Jimmy will be held on December 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas.
