On August 10, 2025, our beloved J.L. Reynolds peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 89. While our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing he is now in the presence of the One he served so faithfully throughout his life.
J.L. was born on October 23, 1935, in Paris, Texas. His parents were Bonnie and Jack Reynolds and he grew up in the small community in Blossom, Texas. He graduated from Blossom High School, where he not only earned his diploma, but also met the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Barbara Barnett Reynolds.
After high school, J.L. attended Draughan’s Business College in Lubbock, where he studied accounting. At age 25, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Army. He was proud to earn his marksmanship badge and went on to serve eight additional years in the Army Reserve after leaving active duty.
J.L. brought the same dedication he showed in service to his career in business. He was responsible for managing the operations of two United Rentals stores in Lubbock. He was known for his honesty, hard work, and treating everyone with the highest level of respect.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. J.L. served as a deacon at Central Baptist Church and was a devoted member of Redbud Baptist Church.
Of all his roles in life, J.L. was proudest of being a husband, father, and grandfather. He was a steady presence for his children, son Steve and wife Jenny, and daughters Vickie and Missy. He was always ready with a listening ear or a word of encouragement. His joy only grew when he became “Grandpa” to Steve and Jenny’s children, Megan and Michael, who lit up his life in ways only grandchildren can.
J.L. will be remembered for his gentle humor, his quiet strength, his devotion to God, and the way his eyes and smile lit up whenever he was surrounded by family.
We will gather to honor and celebrate J.L.’s life on August 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Redbud Baptist Church, 801 Slide Road, Lubbock, TX 79416. Reception will follow.
