

Celebration of Life services will be held at 4pm on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with Rev. John Ballard officiating. Friends are invited to come by to view and sign the register book at Resthaven Funeral Home beginning Sunday at 1pm. John was born on April 30, 1923, to the late John F. Conley, Sr. and Selena Grace (Payne) Conley in Mexia, Texas. He married Ruth Bohrer in 1943 in San Diego, California. She preceded him in death on May 4, 2007. John served in the United States Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant from 1942 until 1945. In his coaching career, he was at Snyder High School from 1953 to 1961 and had a record of 43-27-2. He later went on to coach at Texas Tech University from 1961 to 1974 when he became Assistant Athletic Director from 1974 to 1979 and then Athletic Director from 1980 until his retirement in 1985. John was inducted into the Texas Tech University Hall of Honor in 1995 and also in Snyder’s Athletes Hall of Fame in 2008.
Those left to cherish John’s memories are his son, John Conley, III and wife Rainey of Elk City, Oklahoma; granddaughters: Kristin Walter and husband Kyle, Kimberly Rogers and husband Lane, and Kelli Kilhoffer and husband Kris; great grandchildren: Kyla, Kamdyn, and Kollin Tate Walter and Johnny Randall Rogers, all of Elk City, Oklahoma; and a brother, Joe and wife Peggy Conley of Littleton, Colorado.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to: Jess and Triva Stiles, Guy Griffis, Jimmy and Joy Brag, Johnny and Cindy Owens, and Jamie Schaffner for all of the love and care they have shown during John’s illness; along with everybody who showed support and helped out during this trying time.
