Johnny was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him. He never met a stranger and took great pleasure in helping others.
Johnny grew up in Russelville Camp, a part of the Matador Ranch, where he learned his ranch skills.
He wrote a book about growing up there titled, Don't Go Beyond the Terrace. He graduated from Roaring Springs High School in 1960. Throughout the years he worked for John Deere, LP&L, and Southwestern Public Service as a lineman, service technician, and other roles. He retired in 1996.
He and Vera spent time traveling after retirement. Later they settled back home in Shallowater, Texas where Johnny was in to Ham Radio and gun advocacy. Johnny and Vera were married 48 happy years!
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Vera Durham; sister, Wanda Perryman; son Stace Durham and wife, Connie; daughter, Stormie Sozzoni; 1 grandson, 4 granddaughters, 6 great grandsons, 1 great grand daughter plus one on the way!
A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 10 am, Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Shallowater First Baptist Church with interment following at Resthaven Memorial Park.
