Glenna Joyce Edwards, our beloved mom, momma, grandma, and great grandma met her Savior face-to-face on October 8. She went peacefully after a brief illness and is now celebrating and praising her Lord in heaven. She lived a good life and was full of years when she took her last breath surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Delia Bilberry, brothers Luke and Lawrence, sisters Gretta, Linda and Jean, and her loving husband Waymer, to whom she was married for 55 years. She is survived by her brother, John “Topper” Bilberry, brother-in-law Clay Edwards (Denise), sons Carl (Cindy), Collin (Veronica) and Chris (Crystal), grandchildren Jeff (Kerri), Tim (Amber Jones), Nick (Stephanie), Tyler, Ryan, Anne, and Ella, great grandchildren Abby, Grayson, Jackson, and Eliza, many cousins, nieces, and nephews and her little dog, Blessing.
Joyce was born April 3, 1942, in Post, Texas. She married Waymer in California on August 2, 1959, and lived most of her life in Lubbock. She worked many jobs throughout her life, most notably as church secretary at Asbury Methodist Church. She moved to Hillcrest Manor in 2015 and developed many treasured friendships during her time there. She loved her Lord and did as much as she could to share Him with others, including membership at St. Luke’s Methodist, participating in and teaching Bible studies, and membership in prayer groups. She was fearless in her faith and shared it openly with anyone who knew her. She was lovingly known as a tough old bird, not letting broken ribs or a punctured lung slow her down. She was also compassionate, spending two nights on her front porch to help her frightened rescue dog, Blessing, adapt to his new home. She loved finding treasures and could often be found in a thrift store searching for her next one, being especially fond of birds and teacups. She was at peace with God’s timing for her trip to join Him and that peace comforted those around her, including the many selfless servants at UMC Lubbock, Silver Star, and LTC Nursing Home. Joyce will be greatly missed until we see her again in heaven.
Services will be at St. Luke’s main campus in Lubbock at 11:00 AM on October 27, 2025, with Dr. Andy Hurst officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Luke’s Methodist of Lubbock.
