Judy Lee Blackwell, age 82, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025. Judy was born in Lubbock on April 22, 1942, to Bertell and Bernice Jackson. She graduated from Monterey High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.
Judy worked for the District Attorney of Dallas, Texas for four years, and became a legal secretary and paralegal. She later received certification in Nursing Home Administration and served as a nursing home administrator in Lamesa, Texas. She also volunteered with Contact Lubbock for seven years and for Vista Care Hospice. For many years, she served as caregiver for her mother, and later for her husband, and finally for her father.
Judy had two beloved sons, Monte Bjork of Lubbock and Dallas Bjork of Etoile, Texas. In 1990, she married Jack Blackwell (now deceased), with whom she enjoyed traveling and hunting. She is survived by her brother, George Jackson of Lubbock, and sister, Margaret Hunt of Colorado Springs.
Judy trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior at nine years of age. She was a radiant Christian who loved her Bible. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
A visitation for Judy will be held Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock, TX 79407. Her funeral service will take place Monday, January 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Resthaven, followed by a graveside service at the same location.
