LaVerne V. Jones

LaVerne Vinson Jones, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on February 15, 2016 at the age of 77, after a long illness. She was born on June 13, 1938 to W.A. and Hazel Vinson. LaVerne was one of the first graduating classes of Monterey High School; she attended Texas Tech. She married the love of her life, Jerry D. Jones, on March 21, 1956. She worked for Traveler’s Insurance for many years, and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. LaVerne described herself as a folk artist, and loved working with her hands creating beautiful pieces.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry D. Jones; her children, Tony Jones of Chicago, Illinois, Tami Gunset and Belinda Smith of Lubbock, and DeAun Yarbrough, of Clyde. LaVerne is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a brother. LaVerne was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Jacque, a brother, and her parents.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on February 19, 2016 at Resthaven Memorial Park.
