She was born December 28, 1929, to Durward W. and Flora (Maeker) Hancock in Slaton, Texas.
She graduated from New Home High School at 17 and attended McMurry College, terminating her education path early to marry the love of her life, Lit H. Moore Jr., in 1946.
She was an integral partner in the responsibilities of growing cotton and various crops on their family farm. She was a bookkeeper for the New Home Coop Gin, then became a trainer for Federal Crop Insurance before transitioning to a Crop Insurance Agent, forming her own agency.
She took pride in being a Girl Scout Leader for Troop #43 (with Betty Unfred), which started as a Brownie Troop. The troop worked to earn enough money to take an American Heritage trip to Washington DC, New York, and the World’s Fair as High School seniors.
She was a pianist, treasurer and Sunday school teacher for New Home Methodist Church. She was strong in her faith and continued to listen by cell phone to Sunday School Class even until the Sunday before she passed. One of her hobbies included working with stained glass. She designed, produced, and installed the cross and side panel for the NHMC entryway and other locations.
She was full of life, love, and unwavering character, continually seeking ways to help others. Her infectious smile and Christian spirit were a joy to all who knew her. She was affectionately known as Mam’Maw to her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her son Kenzel, her brother D Donald Hancock, and her parents, Durward W and Flora Hancock.
She is survived by her children Yuonna Carter (John), Gid R Moore, and Debe’ Piatak (Pete); grandchildren Shane Schweda, Nicholas Moore, Brian Piatak, Jared Carter, and Cara Sechser, as well as six great-grandchildren.
