

Leon Clayton Griffith was born June 25, 1929 near Borger, Texas in Hutchinson County, son of Berniece Laudie and Theodore Flake Griffith. Long-time resident of Lubbock, Leon passed away peacefully on August 21, 2014 at Carillon Care Facility. Leon grew up in Skellytown, near Borger, TX. After he graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in Geology, he met and married Ina Jenelle Rowe, then worked for Skelly Oil Company as a land man in North Dakota. Leon joined the US Air Force and achieved the rank of Major in the area of Supply. Leon was stationed in several States and overseas on various tours including one in Vietnam in 1969. Leon loved animals, especially cats - his favorite feline companion was Bolo. Right until his last days, he enjoyed watching the news and especially the stock market reports on CNBC. Leon is predeceased by his grandson Dwight Griffith; and grandaughter in law Trisha. Leon is survived by his two sons, Mark (Donna) Griffith of Lubbock, Texas and James (Sheila) Griffith of Cochrane, Alberta, Canada, caring daughter-in-law (ex) Dena Graves and three grandchildren Melissa Griffith, Justin Griffith and Allison Griffith. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at Resthaven Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home with interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Donations in Leon’s memory can be made to Bacon Heights Baptist Church of Lubbock where Leon was a long-time member.
