

Services for Lola (Morris) Whitfield, 90, of Lubbock will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 in Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with services conducted by Rev. Adam Pardue. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at Resthaven Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Lola passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 in Covenant Hospital. She was born June 9, 1923 in Ralls, Texas to Troy and Irene (Dean) Morris. She was the oldest of five children.
Lola graduated from Ropesville High School in 1941. After graduation from high school, she moved to Fort Worth where she became an aircraft assembler at North American Aviation, operating rivet guns and hand drills. While working to support the war effort, Lola was introduced to her future husband (JC Whitfield) through her roommate, JC's sister, Hazel Whitfield. She married JC March 6, 1945 in Ropesville, Texas during JC’s furlough. After their marriage, the couple resided in Fort Sumner, NM until JC was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps', 94th Fighter Squadron September 19, 1945 at Fort Sam Houston. Lola and JC lived in Corsicana until moving to Lubbock in 1951.
Lola was a stay at home Mom until she went to work for the Lubbock Independent School District. She retired in1988 as Head of Kitchens. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church for 56 years.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband JC Whitfield; her parents; twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Morris; a sister Celeste (Thomas) Henley. Lola is survived by her son Stephen and Linda Whitfield of Houston; daughter Barbara and Mark Carter of Antioch, CA; her twin sister Lela (Morris) Shanklin of Lubbock; two grandsons, Reagan and Naomi Whitfield of Albuquerque, Jesse Whitfield of Lemoore, Ca.; one granddaughter, Jennifer Milne of Oakley, CA; 4 great-grandchildren Ian, Everleigh, Cason, Crue; and Lola’s close and special friend Gilbert Zeiss of Lubbock
