Lucia H. Lira

Lucia H. Lira, 82, of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 on Lubbock, Texas. She was born on July 6, 1934 in Lubbock, Texas to the late Antonio and Benita (Ramirez) Hernandez. Ms. Lira married Gregorio Gayton Lira on January 20, 1954 in Lubbock, Texas.

Ms. Lira loved shopping, playing bingo, working in her yard, celebrating the holidays, especially Christmas, and cooking. Her family would tell you that her tamales were one of her signature dishes. She worked in the cafeteria at McWhorter Elementary, and Rush Elementary for 26 years combined, and she received her Guadalupana membership at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Ms. Lira was a very lovely lady that will be loved and missed by many.

She is preceded in death by her parents,her husband, and one brother Benito Hernandez.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Esmeralda (Ruben) Flores, Gregorio “George” Lira Jr., Rose Lira, Nancy Grunstad, Helen “Linda” (Raymond Jr.) Sosa, Ernestine (Roy) Alonzo, Thomas Lira, John Robert (Christie) Lira, and Craig Lira. Ms. Lira was also blessed with 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind 4 sisters; Carolina Cadena, Patsy Villarreal, Helen Valdez, Amelia Guzman, and one brother; Inez Hernandez.
