She was born June 4, 1926, in Balmorhea, Texas, to Marcos and Maria Hernandez-Subia. Mrs. Rodriguez worked in retail during her teen years, where she met the love of her life Fermin P. Rodriguez. After what seemed like an extended courtship, Mr. & Mrs. Rodriguez exchanged their wedding vows on August 30, 1947, and remained happily married for 64 years until his death in January 2012. Mr. & Mrs. Rodriguez resided in Balmorhea for a short period of time before moving to Pecos to establish permanent residency.
Mrs. Rodriguez was a homemaker for several years, returning to the workforce after her youngest child, Belinda, started school in 1963. She enhanced her people skills while employed as a waitress for Ben’s Spanish Inn. Mrs. Rodriguez returned to the retail business, working for Gibson’s Discount Center for 30 years, until her retirement in 1996. She was considered an honest, loyal and dependable employee, well-known for her dedication and hard-work. She loved her job and all of the friends she worked with during her 30 years as a cashier at Gibson’s.
Mrs. Rodriguez was well-known for being a great friend, with a kind and generous heart, who would go out of her way to help anyone in need. She enjoyed being around people and never met a stranger. Her beautiful green eyes, captivating smile, and good sense of humor made anyone she encountered feel like a longtime friend. She was a devoted wife and mother, and a loyal friend who helped anyone in need just by being a great listener. She was adored and loved by everyone she met. She enjoyed the outdoors and could be seen outside cleaning her spacious backyard on any given day. She had a great admiration for the beauty of nature but had a special place in her heart for all types of flowers. Her love of nature was transposed to her plants as she was known for having a green thumb.
Mrs. Rodriguez was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Frank Subia. Survivors include one son, Richard (Cindy) Rodriguez of Abilene; daughter, Belinda Rodriguez, of Lubbock; one sister, Evangelina Garcia of Midland, two brothers—Isaac Subia (wife Dolores) of Odessa, and Eloy Subia Sr. of Fort Stockton; grandchildren Richard (wife Jamie) Rodriguez of Abilene, Stacey (husband Bill) of San Antonio; Joshua Abila of Lubbock; Jarred Boone and Janelle Boone of Odessa.
