Margaret Emma Jones, “M.E.”, was the oldest of five daughters born to Henry Jean and Peggy Jones in Cuero, Texas, on March 17, 1953. She passed away on August 31, 2015 at University Medical Center (UMC) in Lubbock, Texas, where she had been employed for 37 years. She was 62 years of age.
M.E. was raised in Knox City, Texas, and thoroughly enjoyed the freedom she had to ride her bike, play sports, and go to school where everyone was her friend. She graduated from Knox City High School in 1971 where she participated in basketball, played drums in the band, and loved being out and about with her friends. After graduation she enrolled first at Texas Tech University and then at Midwestern State University where she graduated with a degree in nursing. She returned to Lubbock and began working at UMC. M.E. had many positions at UMC, including neonatal ICU nurse, House Supervisor, Accreditation Coordinator, and her last assignment as Clinical Documentation Specialist.
M.E. was a friend and mentor to many at the hospital and valued each and every friendship, delighting in hearing stories about kids, grandkids, and four-legged kids! UMC was M.E.’s home away from home, and the people there were her second family. In her free time, M.E. could be found courtside at a Lady Raider’s game, at the movies with friends, in the mountains of Ruidoso, or playing a little poker. At home, she would be curled up with her “girls”, four adorable dachshunds: Maggie, Mabel, Harley, and Riley. They brought much joy and happiness to her life, and countless hours of entertainment.
M.E. was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is loved and remembered by her wife, Beth Carlberg, two wonderful friends, Renae Phillips and Terri Bennett, and her sisters and their families: Martha Jones of Lubbock, Adrian
and Neal Cheek of Abilene, Sarah and Dave Roye of Carrollton, and Nancy and Greg Huber of Monahans. Her nieces and nephews: Tyler and Rachel Brothers of Austin, Sarah Kate Brothers of Abilene, Blake Roye of Carrollton, Christian Huber
of Post, Peggy Huber and son Charley of Levelland, and Jordon, Emilie and Jack Huber of Monahans.
We will always remember and cherish M.E.’s larger-than-life personality, her generosity to all, and the devotion and love she had for her family and friends. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now
there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
